Babaji is a Kathiawari horse, a breed originating in the Saurashtra province of Gujarat in Western India.

They are a typical desert breed with refined features, large nostrils, short glossy coats, and fine, silky, manes and tails.

Babaji's base is done in a modified paisley pattern adorned with Indian metal work shapes and designs.

One of 5 indigenous breeds from India, the Kathiawari most closely resembles it's cousin, the Marwari, although they are considered two distinct breeds. The Kathiawari is smaller and stockier, showing a greater Arabian influence while the Marwari is taller and leaner with a more thoroughbred-like appearance.

Within the Kathiawari breed there are 28 different recognized strains which correspond to the Princely houses that bred them. Originally developed as war horses, the Kathiawari and their Marwari cousins are still considered an important part of Indian culture.

Specially trained dancing horses often perform at auspicious occasions while the presence of a horse is a symbolic necessity for many religious ceremonies. In India, the horse is considered a divine being and is the source of many myths and legends.

 

 

Another interesting feature of the breed is that they possess the ability to perform an ambling gait called the Revaal which is preferred for comfortably covering long distances when riding in the desert as well as providing a basis for racing competitions.

One of the most extraordinary features of the Kathiawari are their curved and unusually set ears. Often overlapping at the tips, the ears that are most prized form a perfect arch when pricked forward.

Kathiawari horses come in a fantastic colour/pattern array including chestnut, bay, black, all shades of grey (including pink skinned white,) dun, tobiano, sabino, palomino (and all creme dilutions), and roan. (some of these, mainly the dun and roan, *may* be misnamed colours within the breed so it is wise to do your research before painting!)

In case you were wondering about his name. . . I am a big Supertramp fan and I was thinking about starting this Indian fellow one day as I was driving around doing errands and suddenly the song Babaji, came on the radio. . .

Babaji is being offered in a 12 month restricted edition.  This means that he will only be available to order between August 4^th 2007 and August 4^th 2008.  After August 4^th 2008, the edition will be closed and the number sold will be designated as the total number in the edition.  (A small number of artist copies will be cast and retained as permitted by the condition of the active molds following the closing of the edition.  We reserve the right to discontinue the edition before August 4^th 2008 if an active mold deteriorates and there aren’t sufficient sales to warrant the pouring of another mold.)

You are welcome to order as many copies of Babaji as you wish during the limited time offering. 

Babaji is priced at $220.

We will accept time payments on these new and revised terms.  A non-refundable deposit of $50 for each resin purchased with full payment to be made in a period not exceeding 4 months.

When you make your order, you will be assigned an edition number or numbers.  Please try to use these numbers with any correspondence about your purchase (payments, questions, etc.) it will help us save time when looking up your information.

Orders will be filled in the sequence they are received with paid in full orders receiving first priority.  If you have paid a deposit but not yet completed your time payments by the time your edition number has come up, we will notify you that there is a resin available to be sent to you.  If you are not prepared to pay the balance for your order at that time, we will go to the next person on the list.  Upon completion of your payments you will receive your resin at the first available opportunity.

If you are unable to complete the purchase within the allotted 4 month period we will refund all monies paid toward your order, minus the non-refundable deposit of $50 per resin ordered.

We will only ship to you or to a prepper or painter of your choosing.  Any other requests involving shipping to a third party purchaser will not be acknowledged

Babaji is solid cast by Resins by Randy with stainless steel reinforcing rods in his legs and tail..  He comes with a decorative base which reflects his Indian heritage.  He fits securely onto the base with a unique combination of a stainless steel peg in his foreleg and a small resin key in his hind foot.
